Background & Influence

I started practicing yoga in 1996 after buying a Bryan Kest Power Yoga VHS tape and subsequently studied the teachings of Beryl Bender Birch. In 2001, I opened Whole Life Yoga Studio in Dallas with my brother, Kurt Johnsen.

In 2003, we developed American Power Yoga (“APY”), recognized by Yoga Alliance, to ensure we had a pool of consistent teachers that followed our teaching philosophy. I have taught over 2,000 vinyasa flow classes, I am prenatal certified through Mamaste Yoga, and in 2018 I completed a 60 hour Bryan Kest training.
